Alice Coleman ![]() Co-founders of Young Inspiration Frank Jacobs Kim Jacobs Young Inspiration, Inc. is a non-profit [501 (c)(3)] agency which provides educational, vocational, intellectual, and moral leadership to young men and women within Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The organization was founded in April, 1995 by Frank and Kimberly Jacobs of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Mr. Jacobs graduated from Uniontown High School in 1985 and James Madison University in 1990. Upon graduating from James Madison University, Mr. Jacobs had two goals: 1) to find work in the pharmaceutical industry, 2) to work with the youth of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. One dream came true, while the other, on the other hand, had to be put on hold. Mr. Jacobs was offered a position with Merck & Co., Inc. The challenge, however, was that the position was in Washington, D.C. Although he was far from Western Pennsylvania, he promised himself never to forget the youth in Uniontown. Mr. Jacobs would visit Uniontown frequently on weekends. During those visits, he would meet with the youth to discuss discipline, drug prevention, and the requirements for college entrance. While visiting, he noticed that the job market in Uniontown had deteriorated drastically. Steel mills and Coal mines had closed or moved away. Drug use, drug dealing, and welfare predominated. Many of the youth viewed drug dealing and welfare as the only two career options available. The youth were headed toward a downward spiral. It was time for someone to do something -- and that someone was him. In 1995, Mr. Jacobs was informed that Astra Merck had two openings in the Western Pennsylvania area. His wife, Kimberly Jacobs, who was already employed by Astra Merck Inc., would only have to transfer. To complete the move, on March 1, 1995 he accepted a position with Astra Merck. Mr. Jacobs was thrilled to know that his dreams would become a reality at last. In April 1995, Kimberly Jacobs and Frank Jacobs founded Young Inspiration. The organization was incorporated in August 1995. The Internal Revenue Service recognized the need for Young Inspiration, Inc. in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. They approved Young Inspiration's application for 501 (c)(3) status in two weeks. The organization's corporate attorney informed Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs that through his twenty-five year career, he had never seen an organization get approved so quickly. |
